About This Blog
I'm Marcus Webb. I'm not a doctor or a researcher. I'm a software engineer based in London who spent two years of daily 16:8 fasting — and started writing down what actually changed.
Who I Am
I'm 34, living in London, and I work in software engineer. Screen-heavy days, irregular schedules, and the kind of low-grade fatigue that doesn't get flagged on a standard health check.
I don't have clinical credentials. What I do have is a detailed log going back several years, a habit of tracking one variable at a time, and a tolerance for reading research I don't fully understand on the first pass.
Why I Started This
At 34, I was constantly tired by mid-afternoon despite sleeping enough. A colleague mentioned intermittent fasting as a way to stabilise energy. I was sceptical. I tried it for 30 days to prove it wouldn't work — and ended up not stopping.
This blog is that log made public. It is not a research journal. It is a record of what I tested, what I noticed, and what the evidence says when you dig past the headline claims.
How I Track Things
My method is consistent rather than rigorous. I track fasting window adherence, sleep quality (Oura), morning HRV, afternoon energy (1–10 self-report), and weekly body composition. I introduce one change at a time and give it enough time before drawing conclusions.
- Strict 16:8 window — eating window 12:00–20:00, tracked daily without exceptions
- One variable at a time — if I change meal timing or composition, I note it separately
- Sleep and HRV first — subjective energy is useful but sleep data is harder to fake
- Minimum 4 weeks before conclusions — adaptation takes longer than most people expect
What You'll Find Here
Every post is grounded in my own experience and cross-referenced against peer-reviewed literature. I write in first person because these are my observations — not clinical conclusions.
- Window timing and adjustment — how to shift the eating window without crashing
- What breaks a fast — testing coffee, supplements, and electrolytes during the fasted window
- Energy and workout timing — when training fasted works and when it doesn't
- Mistakes I made — the first month was messy; those posts are the most useful
